Seoul Winter Festival: December 14, 2026–January 31, 2027
Seoul Metropolitan Government’s official 2026 annual-events calendar confirms the Seoul Winter Festival from December 14, 2026 to January 31, 2027. The city describes it as a large-scale winter festival with night illuminations and media-art experiences across central Seoul.
Gwanghwamun has historically been one of the key winter-event areas, and Seoul’s official guide specifically highlights the Gwanghwamun Square Market as a seasonal winter market featuring small-business vendors, seasonal goods, handmade products and winter food.
However, as of October 10, 2026, the Gwanghwamun Square event calendar has not yet published the complete 2026 square-specific winter program and exact operating dates for each Gwanghwamun attraction. Do not assume that a previous year’s Seoul Light or Gwanghwamun Market dates automatically apply to 2026. We will update this guide when the square-specific schedule is officially posted.

How to check Gwanghwamun Square events yourself
Open the official site at uri.seoul.go.kr/ghm/main.do. On the main page, look for 광화문광장 행사 (“Gwanghwamun Square Events”). The calendar lets you move by date and filter areas such as 육조마당 (Yukjo Madang), 놀이마당 and the wider square.
If you do not read Korean, use these useful terms:
| Korean | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 광화문광장 행사 | Gwanghwamun Square events |
| 행사 안내 | Event information |
| 일시 | Date / time |
| 장소 | Location |
| 예약 | Reservation |
| 무료 | Free |
You can also use the official Gwanghwamun Square English website, although the Korean event calendar can sometimes be updated first or contain more detail.
What can change?
Outdoor events at Gwanghwamun Square may be changed because of weather, safety controls, city operations or other public events. Winter programs are especially likely to publish detailed operating hours closer to opening day. For that reason, Korea Practical Guide uses the official square calendar as the final reference rather than copying an old event schedule.
