What is the Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival?
The festival is a waterfront laser and media-art event staged along the Hangang River. It moves among six Hangang locations over different editions, including Seoraeseom, Yeouido, Ttukseom, Nodeul Island, Seonyudo and Nanjido.
For 2026, the venue is Nodeul Island. The curatorial theme is Rhapsody of Light, using the energies of water, fire, soil, air and life as a narrative framework for large-scale laser art, installations, projection mapping, kinetic work, video and audiovisual performances.
What can you see in 2026?
Future Hangang Headquarters says the festival includes 14 laser and media-art works across the island, plus three university-collaboration light installations. The program combines outdoor and indoor works, so the experience is not limited to one single laser show.
Outdoor areas use the river, bridges and open landscape as part of the artwork. Some pieces project light onto the Hangang itself, while other areas use projection mapping, illuminated walking routes and large media installations. Indoor spaces include kinetic, installation and audiovisual works.
The three main program areas: 3L
1. Laser Art
Laser Art is the core visual program. It connects media art with Nodeul Island’s landscape and the Hangang River. The festival’s 2026 art program is directed by Korean artist Kira Kim.
2. Light of Companionship
Light of Companionship combines performance programming with fundraising and public participation. The festival website lists this program for October 9–11, 7:30 PM–8:30 PM. If you are visiting on the final weekend, check the latest program notice before choosing your arrival time.
3. Lecture
The public program also includes short-format talks connecting light, science, communication and culture. Future Hangang Headquarters lists special lecture sessions on October 9 and 10 with science communicators, a professor and a brand consultant.
Where is the festival?
The festival takes place across Nodeul Island, including the Live House, Nodeul Square, galleries and outdoor spaces. The official public listing identifies the address as 445 Yangnyeong-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

Nearest subway station and festival shuttle
The most convenient nearby subway access for the festival is Nodeul Station on Seoul Subway Line 9. The official event guidance uses Nodeul Station Exit 2 as one of the festival shuttle stops.
A festival shuttle is scheduled to circulate approximately every 15 minutes from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM on this route:
Shinyongsan Station Exit 4 → Nodeul Island → Nodeul Station Exit 2 → Noryangjin Station Exit 3
This makes Nodeul Station a simple option if you are already traveling on Line 9. If you are coming from central Seoul on Line 4, Shinyongsan Station is another useful connection point.
Other ways to reach Nodeul Island
Bus
The festival website lists multiple bus routes stopping at Nodeul Island bus stop (03-340), including trunk routes 150, 151, 152, 500, 501, 504, 506, 507, 605, 750A, 750B, 751 and 752, plus local route 6211.
Special cruise service
The city also lists a special Eland Cruise route between Yeouido and Nodeul Island during the festival period, with different numbers of sailings on weekdays and weekends. This requires separate checking and, when applicable, booking through the cruise operator.
Driving
Driving is not the best option. The organizer warns that parking inside Nodeul Island is limited and that general vehicle access may be restricted depending on festival operations. Public transportation is the safer plan for a busy final weekend.
How to plan a visit
- Arrive before dark if you want an easier orientation. The main festival starts at 6:30 PM, but Nodeul Island can become busy as evening programs begin.
- Check the festival map. The artworks are spread across indoor and outdoor locations rather than concentrated on a single stage.
- Allow at least 1–2 hours. If you want to see both outdoor laser works and indoor media-art installations, a quick walk-through may feel rushed.
- Use public transportation. The festival shuttle and nearby subway stations are designed to reduce traffic and parking pressure.
- Recheck the latest notice. Outdoor light art can be affected by weather or operating conditions.
Is the festival suitable for families?
The festival is largely an open, public nighttime event, and many installations are visual rather than language-dependent. That can make it accessible for international visitors and families. However, some works use intense light, laser effects, sound, haze or dark indoor spaces. Families with very young children or visitors sensitive to these effects should move through the venue at a comfortable pace and follow staff guidance.
